Why Does Our Computer Remember What Web Sites We Have Looked At Before?
Cookies used to be a snack we had with milk at suppertime when we were small children. Now they are key to the Internet Business success. As we search through internet sites, cookies are downloaded to our pcs to make it simpler for us to use those sites in the future.
Many times we are totally unaware that this is going on. We Work From Home on our computer, possibly studying, possibly purchasing, possibly just looking through general interest web sites. All the time we are leaving a track. When we click on our browser there is a tab to view our history. There we can go back some weeks to see web sites we have viewed in the past. We try to enter a web address in the browser and are presented with a list of web sites we have visited before as choices for where we may wish to go today.
With some browsers, when we go to one internet site, for example an insurance internet site, a similar Internet Business will see we are visiting a similar business and try to muscle in, so there are many pop up adverts displaying on the computer. Other browsers encourage you to stop these web sites which you have not opened, from accessing your laptop, but again it lets us see how our internet activity is being closely monitored.
If we use a search engine, typing a search request may give results with certain web sites shown in a different colour to the rest – this is because we haveselected that internet site previously and the search engine is showing us this. The individuals who work in the Internet Business must have some of the Best Paid Careers as they work in such high-technology areas.
The internet browser I use also knows when I have input a password on a internet site and asks me whether I want my computer to remember that password so that I do not need to enter it every time I go to the internet site. So, not only does the laptop know where I like to visit, it also knows what passwords I use.
Because a lot of us Work From Home, sorting out our on line banking bills, shopping, looking for those Best Paid Careers we would all wish to have, we are leaving a lot of information on one small computer, which in some ways is reassuring, it is our computer and it knows what we like to do. However, the drawback for this is that all our most private stuff is kept in one place.
It may be worthwhile, therefore, to ascertain that we do not leave our internet history to grow and grow, but maybe keep just one week or one month’s worth of previous activity. Possibly we could get rid of some of the cookies which have amassed without our knowledge. Some are very useful, but many are more for the good of the web sites we are visiting than our own.
By doing this, we are making it harder for others to track our behaviour and freeing up space on our computer which will allow it to run faster but the downside is that we may need to give more information to web siteswe visit regularly if we have got rid of their cookies.
