All Of The Beloved TV Classics Celebrated At The TV Land Awards
The 2010 TV Land Awards, which were hosted by actor Tim Allen, was an exciting event attended by some of television’s best loved performers. Classic and contemporary stars were all on board, from “Golden Girl” Betty White to the stars of the hot show Glee. Fan Favorite and Future Classic were just a couple of the special awards given out that night.
The cast of the classic television series The Love Boat was honored this year as the TV Land pick for Fan Favorite. The Love Boat, which starred Gavin MacLeod and Bernie Kopell, centered on a cruise ship called Pacific Princess and the lives of the people on board. During its run, the show was nominated for several awards, including two Emmy Awards and four Golden Globes.
Younger audience members were surely thrilled that the trendy new show Glee was honored as this year’s Future Classic. The wildly successful series follows the trials and tribulations of a high school choir trying to save their program by winning a national title. The witty writing and eye catching musicals numbers make Glee completely distinct from other new shows on television.
The prominent Legend Award for this year went to two men who are widely regarded as kings of classic comedy, Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner. Reiner earned his place as a television legend by writing The Dick Van Dyke Show, and Mel Brooks is famous for writing numerous comedies, including Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, and the hit Broadway musical The Producers.
The award for the show that has made a huge impact on Pop Culture was given to the cast of the 1970’s classic Charlie’s Angels. Not only was Charlie’s Angels a hugely successful television show, but it spawned two blockbuster films starring Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore. The award was accepted by Cheryl Ladd and Jaclyn Smith, sadly without their recently deceased co-star, Farrah Fawcett.
The popular sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond received the TV Land Impact Award, and the honor was accepted by stars Brad Garrett and Ray Romano. To add extra excitement to the honor, the cast was given the award by television icon Bob Newhart. Over the course of its nine year run, the show received an unbelievable 129 award nominations, rounding up forty-nine wins.
The short-lived but well loved 1980’s sitcom Bosom Buddies was honored with a celebration of its 30th anniversary. Jay Leno was on hand to present the award for the show, which had two seasons on ABC beginning in 1980, followed by a summer of reruns on NBC in 1984. Tom Hanks, who starred in the show at the start of his career, was there to accept the award.
The TV Land Awards was a fun and diverse ceremony, paying tribute to stars and a show that spanned generations and genres. An impressive variety of stars turned out for the event, from comedic icons to Academy Award winners.
