Combination Micro-Wave Ovens – Are They Worth the Extra Cost?
The principal benefit to using a combination microwave oven over a normal microwave is that by combining your microwave and your convection oven in one unit you are doing away with the need to own both. Old-fashioned ovens are most often the biggest single item you have in your kitchen, so by taking away the need for an oven you are probably going to gain lots of space. This could be useful if for example you were contemplating purchasing a dishwasher but had nowhere to put it. Alternatively, you may live in an apartment where there simply is no space for an oven, but you might be able to find counter-top space for a combined microwave oven. You may think that a microwave oven could never be a substitute for a standard convection oven, but lots of of the higher-end models even feature an integrated grilling function.
Extra Capacity for Cooking
Even if you do not have a lack of space and you’re really attached to your oven there are other very good reasons that you may still consider purchasing a combined microwave oven. Another main reason why it may be advantageous for you is if you have a large family or often cook for a considerable number of people then it may provide an increased ability. If you cook a full Sunday roast once a week it’s quite possible that by the time you have put the meat in the oven you do not have room to get anything else in there such as a tray of potatoes. If you had a microwave which was capable of cooking these foodstuffs like a normal oven then you wouldn’t have to sacrifice them due to insufficient room.
Combo Microwave Ovens – Great Time Savers
An additional benefit which lots of people could quite possibly not be aware of is that a combination microwave oven can actually function as a terrific time-saving device. Many of the new generation microwave cookers actually will let you opt to microwave heat food while using old-fashioned convection heating simultaneously. Since the food is being heated in two different ways this actually lets it cook more quickly but without risk of burning. So if you’re one of these people who finds that large amounts of your evening time are eaten up waiting for things to finish cooking, a combined microwave oven could be a godsend.
Expense
At the end of the day, combined microwave ovens usually cost considerably more than a regular microwave and so they’re not for everyone. If you are aware of any of the problems that I have laid out here though then it’s very likely that you would profit by investing that little bit more in a combined microwave oven as opposed to a regular cooker.
